Rape, Power and Activism

Rape is one of many abuses that are effectively cultural markers, made so by their prevalence in certain societies and the absence in others...

Industrial Society rapes the soil (pharming), the ground (mining), the sea (over fishing) abuses workers (low wages), other cultures (Aboriginals, Indigenous peoples) and the rapist rapes the victim, the child rapist rapes the child and it is NEVER just about the action of  mining, digging, fishing, the sexual assault.

In many ways these are the medium through which that kind of Power is expressed. And whilst the experience of each kind of assault is horrific, and for those who suffer it, a serious and debilitating trauma from which the action and the motivation are extremely difficult to distingish, those who seek to help the suffering in the long term, those who are concerned with activism in these areas must always keep in mind that the issue is very much about Power.

It is also about the POWER to avoid the truth of the outcomes for what is acted upon, what is abused, who is victimised that is the real issue.... that avoidance allows the abuser to retain Power, and is in essence the immaturity of a consciousness that refuses to address the outcomes of it's behaviour, which always leads to more abuse and creates lots of traumatised organisms in it's wake, which is NOT a biological mandate.

And it's a behavioural issue, so it is tractable which is to say it is a matter of choice,  there is this element of volition and thus the behaviour open to being resolved, changed.

However it requires a clear and unprejudiced observation of the behaviour and outcomes, a kind of fearlessness and determination textured with a degree of empathy and psycho-cultural understanding applied as behaviour, processes, policies and ethics for those changes to occur. This is critical.

This is about data, evidence and the insights of Survivors of rape, and other abuses, an insight that is all to often ignored or masked by the rage of the bystander community.

1. Abusive Behaviour emerges when populations or individuals (animal or human) are stressed, traumatised and exposed in particular to chronic stress and are unable to resolve it, resolve the situation within which they find themselves, and this occurs most often in hierarchical systems:

2. Studies of older cultures reveal that there IS a spectrum of behaviour from abusive to empathic, and that the primary predictor of abuse emerging in any given culture is the degree to which the natural child mother bonding processes are disrupted, stressed...

3. These studies of pre-conquest peoples reveal part of the reason for that empathic state is partly sensory experience : towhit the existence of a sensory acuity or liminal awareness / liminal consciousness as a key element of an operational experiential reality in interactions between people within a healthy optimally functioning societal social system.

4. Recent studies on the consciousness of babies reveals a similar potential, and recognises that it requires appropriate nurturing behaviour from it’s caring community to fully deveop,

5. Recent research over the past 40 years into child development, including brain development, bio-chemistry of hormones, how the immune system works or no, all point to a biological mandate towards empathy, connection, intelligent co-operation as expressions of optimum biological health.

I urge you to review these materials, and it WILL take some time, it is time well spent....

Garda Rape 'Jokes' and the Abuse of Power: An open Letter to Media and Dail Eireann

 A Chara,

I wrote about the pervasive abuse of power in November 2009, in a letter published in the Irish Times.

This is part of what I wrote:

“the problem is best described as the abuse of power, in all its forms, from the personal to the institutional, for control or profit. Resolving this will protect children, and much more, in the future. It is linked in essence to all struggles for liberty, and must be at the heart of and visibly resolved in any decent, healthy society that dares to call itself decent.”

That call remains as clear today as it was when it was published.

The recent reports of Gardai ‘joking’ about raping a protestor are yet another warning sign.

Time and time again, we are seeing people in positions of Power and Responsibility engage in behaviour that fundamentally undermines their right to that position of power, that denies the meaning of the word ‘responsible’, that breaks asunder the sacred trusts inherent in positions of responsibility, that indicates that the issues this ‘incident’ highlights are still largely unresolved, and furthermore, that places all of Irelands people at risk.

Ireland cannot call itself a decent Society, until the denial stops, until the work of honesty, integrity and of restorative justice is underway. This is a matter of duty of care.

This the people of Ireland must recognise, and if those in positions of power and responsibility will not act, then the people have to. Or we too lose all credibility amongst the children of Ireland.

Yours sincerely

Obama, Clinton and the excluision of Kuchinich or the rape of free speech in American Election 2008!

In January 2008, the network MSNBC scheduled a live presidential candidate debate for the top 4 democratic candidates. Clinton, Obama, Edwards and Kuchinich.

Kuchinich had qualified by being the 4th most popular candidate, - MSNBC drafted these qualification criteria themselves - ( Kuchinich was and remains the only democratic anti-war, anti military industrial complex, anti-privatisation of utilities, pro welfare state, pro green environment democratic presidential candidate with a consistent record of these policies who also called for impeachment of Bush, Cheny etc)

On January 9th, NBC told Kucinich he had met the criteria for the debate. Then, less than two days later, NBC changed the criteria and declared Kucinich no longer qualified. On Monday, a Nevada judge ordered NBC to include Kucinich, but then NBC appealed the ruling and actively fought to keep him off the stage. On Tuesday night, less than an hour before the debate, the Nevada Supreme Court sided with NBC.

In court filings, NBC painted itself as the victim. Attorneys for the network wrote, “Mr. Kucinich’s claim is nothing more than an illegitimate private cause of action designed to impose an equal access requirement that entirely undermines the wide journalistic freedoms enjoyed by news organizations under the First Amendment.” Attorneys for General Electric’s NBC also argued, “A television station does not have to grant unlimited access to a candidate debate. If anyone’s First Amendment rights are being infringed, they are MSNBC’s.”

In other words MSNBC and the Nevada Supreme court DID NOT DEFEND Kuchinichs right to speak freely,to the Americna electorate who were to view the debate live on TV, thus violating Victor Hugos maxim, ""I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."" and truely deflowered the supposed 'purity' of US Democracy and free speech, by legal coercion! Rape actually!

You often hear people say the troops are fighting to protect peoples right to dissent and are protecting free speech with their lives. This episode shows clearly that this is blatantly untrue.

Remember this every time you hear of someone dieing or being wounded in Iraq.

Amy Goodmans Democracynow.org did a wee mash-up of the debate the next day to include Kuchinich.

Kuchinich is pro environment, anti-war, pro impeach bush, cheney, anti-banks and corporates and globalsiation/privatisation and has been consistent in this approach since his first election at age 23! Streets ahead of Obama!

Here's the democracy now mash-up of the debate including Kuchinich - brilliant!

http://www.democracynow.org/2008/1/16/breaking_the_sound_barrier_democracy_now

This shows clearly that Obama was the chosen candidate from the start of 2008, that he was supported by Lockheed Martin (who OWN MSNBC and have profitted hugely from the Iraq war) and is not bringing any change other than the colour of the residents of the White House.

The controlling elites played the 'race card' very well and conned America and in particular the rest of the world into a false hope.

They also know that Obamas con job will not last very long and that they have a limited time window to push their agenda forward.

The only ones who can stop this agenda are YOU AND I. because it is not just the US Governemnt that is doing this, it's the G20 group of countries too, and you are lving in one.

The time for action is now. And if true change is to happen, it will be done by you and I, and millions of people at the street/grassroots level upwards, because WE CAN!

And if you believe you can't then think again. Because YOU CAN! YOU KNOW YOU CAN!

All the main UK papers went ballistic claiming Obama was a real change, knowing all of the above.

Medialens.org have done an excellent piece on this in their latest alert, which includes the emails of those 'journalists' and editors at The Independent, Guardian, Times and Telegraph, who brayed loudly about Obama being the new shining light of democracy and peace.

Medialens promotes a rational and compassionate rebuttal of the mainstream medias lies when and where the occur (an all to frequent happening) and suggests that those who write to media to say that "we know that you know, now, that we know you are lying!" and here's why, do so politely. I agree!
