Radical Solutions for Climate Disruption.
Radical means to go to the roots of the problem, to undertake the discipline understand the problem accurately, so that one is best positioned to design solutions for that problem, based on the evidence.
The NHS in England was a radical solution to widespread ill-health amongst the English working class after WWII. It understood that health care poverty was causing millions of cases of chronic ill-health, many tens of thousands of excess deaths annually and it proposed eradicating healthcare poverty.
Climate Disruption.
1. More than 70 years ago Fossil Fuel Wealth-as-Power hid the scientific knowledge the scientists within the Fossil Fuel Corporations had gained which explicitly warned of Climate Disruption, if they continued to extract fossil fuels and use them, pouring more CO2, Methane and other gases into the atmosphere.
2. They did so to enable them to continue to extract Wealth from the economy and build that Wealth as a weaponised political movement, in order to evade responsibility for avoidable harms they refused to avoid, because they did not want to pay the costs of avoiding those harms.
3. They must be held accountable. They must be made to pay the costs of mitigation, and the executives involved must face criminal indictments.
4. Fossil Fuel use must be reduced at pace, and renewables and energy conservation and other mitigating technologies must be invested into at the same time.
5. Money and other resources must be deployed to protect the most vulnerable people from the immediate harms that climate disruption is generating. We have to look after each other. Basic empathy and morality directs this approach.
6. Failure to do all of this will lead to immeasurable avoidable harm to hundreds of millions of people.
7. Democratic systems must be strengthened to ensure Governments can legislate accordingly.
8. Militarism must be dismantled, and warfare ceased in toto, in order to enable state to state mutual aid and co-operation to redirect the wealth and resources wasted by militarism to meet the climate disruption challenges we are facing into the next 50 years..
THAT IS the Radical Solution to meeting the challenges of Climate Disruption, in order to protect people who are being made vulnerable to its adverse impacts.
Elon Musk and Empathy
Elon Musk says empathy is threatening civilisation. He’s wrong. He is that threat. What’s worse though is that his threat is totally consistent with neoliberal economics.
He did say that. And he meant it.
It is the kind of thinking that asserts the right to avoid paying the costs to avoid avoidable harms, which is deemed 'necessary' to maximise wealth extraction 'efficiency'.
That causes real harm to entire populations - the avoidable harms are not avoided - and that harm then generates, understandably so, dissent, resistance and calls for a legislative regulatory approach to counter such deliberate irresponsibility. To use the powers of The State to prevent avoidable harm is a basic duty of care in any genuine democracy.
And that is why the extracted, accumulated and concentrated Wealth is then weaponised as a political force to influence democratic legislators to protect wealth extraction from being held accountable.
Growth and the GDP is a tool to measure how much Wealth can be extracted, more than it is a measure of the health of the economy terms of meeting peoples needs and the Governments ability and effectiveness in preventing avoidable harm.
China imprisons billionaires who try to corrupt Government officials.
The West elects the representatives of Wealth-as-Power into Government.
So yes, from the perspective of Wealth-as-Power, empathy is a weakness; the desire to avoid avoidable harms driven by care and empathy is a threat to their entire system of dominance.
The Problem of Capital as a Political Party.
The problem of Capital is how to extract enough wealth from an economy to convert in to Capital as a political weapon capable of undermining democratic accountability in order to protect wealth extraction.
In short how to get away with massive levels of theft.
Wealth Extraction by definition impoverishes the economy and the population. It is wealth taken away, hoarded and weaponised to enable even more wealth to be taken away and weaponised.
Chinese approach to avoiding avoidable harm.
Chinese Government plans strategically to improve the lives and living conditions - including the shared environment - of all the Chinese people, which includes 53 distinct ethnic cultures, who receive state support, as well as the Han people...
Avoiding avoidable harm has become a core component of Chinese Government strategic thinking and planning.
Capitalism avoids paying the costs of avoiding avoidable harm in order to maximise wealth extraction efficiency, and then weaponise Wealth to adversely influence Govern to protect Wealth Extraction efficiency, at great costs to citizens and our shared environment. Warfare is a tool of foreign policy. Warfare is always a matter of refusing to avoid avoidable harms.
The choice is stark - have more billionaires or prevent avoidable harm.
Greek Gods and Civilisation.
Every patriarchy cult creates its sets of 'gods' or 'spirits' in its own behavioural image, and then deploys the myths to explain the naturalness of their atrocious behaviour.
Freud and Jung stooped so low as to cite these as archetypes of human behaviour, rather than as examples of the culture of patriarchal violence that they really are.
Egalitarian cultures do not build monuments to power. Egalitarian cultures do not permit rapists to get by unscathed.
The word 'civilised' is a condom, a protective sheath word, masking solid truth disclosure, the STD most feared by Power Hierarchies.
There has never been an evolutionarily healthy Power Hierarchy.
Power Hierarchies are dysfunctional cults.
Both Homer's Oddessy and Nolan's epic takes on it are manospherical attempts at high art, and they both fart abuse as a normative behaviour from start to finish.
At least we have satire.
And then there is satire, at pace. Since the 2000s, understanding the inter webs, and computers as creative tools of visual, topic and written arts, I saw a future where any pseudo artistic or political defecation would be satirised as soon as it was released.
