Birth in Gaza: a cultural marker, and not a good one.

I was born by Ceasarian long time ago, in a foreign land, and I needed an immediate blood transfusion and other assistance, straight into an incubator. I was very lucky indeed to survive. Much luckier than so many..... I think of the mothers to be of Gaza, and my heart breaks for them.

A news article on the conditions of women in pregnancy and childbirth in Gaza these past 5 months sets the tone of my interest here, as a parent and an adult.

https://theintercept.com/2024/01/31/gaza-pregnancy-childbirth-health-care/

"She lived in a state of fear that impacted not only her mental health, but also the well-being of the baby growing inside of her. In late November, during a temporary truce in fighting between Israel and Hamas, she noticed a difference. “When the psychological tension eased, and the sounds of bombing ceased, I observed a notable increase in the baby’s activity,” she said.

The condition of environment of the mother, and her condition within that these all have an impact, adverse or nurturant, upon the developing child from within the womb onwards. In the case of a genocidal war all around you, the adverse impacts are incalculable, unpredictable other than they will be egregiously adverse. Intolerable and it must be said, entirely avoidable.

Just stop this insane barbaric industrial scale militarised assault upon a civilian population.

I type out the word 'Stop'. I feel pathetic.

I feel so weak, even as my outrage and grief and anger are not.

I'm impotent to stop anything, unless I form up and participate within a wider movement of people allied in solidarity to thwart the war makers on our streets, in our hearts and minds and in our legislatures. This we must do, no matter what. This is no longer optional.

There are no justifications for any of what is being done to the Palestinian people that would stand in The Hague as an acquittal.

The murder continues - thus  there are no conditions to be met by anyone before the Israeli Military is ordered to stop - indeed those that have not yet shed blood should legally mutiny from that Institution (the IDF or IOF) to avoid committing war crimes. Israel needs a mutiny, a mutiny for ceasefire and then peace.

Imagine being a parent of small infants and toddlers in all of that horror?

I think of the women in Gaza and West Bank today and yesterday and tomorrow (everywhere war plagues innocent civilian populations) going through last trimester of a beloved pregnancy in the conditions imposed by Israeli Military Assault, supported by USUSK and EU across Gaza and the West Bank.

My god. It's a terrible, terrible scene.

This is not what these babies are evolved to expect to meet.

How can their mothers and fathers known peace that their children might know now it too? When it is well understood and widely known that peace in the home is absolutely essential to healthy development of all our children.

The culture that deems that condition we see in war zones an acceptable part of war, which is in and of it self already intolerable and unjust ,is not at all evolved.

It is not a culture that adapts to a changing world  which is what evolution means - it is instead a cult that demands the dynamic variations and the constant changes of living healthy biology are wrought by it into wealth and power, and for no other.

The Bully Cult is rooted deeply in mistreatment of children and vulnerable persons as collateral damage in its pursuit of dominance.

It is in inhumane cult. Many are seeing it as it is for the first time, and that is always a difficult moment.

And yet, it is the truth that the vast majority of us are innocent of any of its crimes, even if we pay taxes and they are abused by deployment to violence and destruction, even if we voted stupidly, voted without checking, turned our heads away from the News, we were busy, we are still innocents in these wars. People like us pay the price. They need us as their allies.

That said, in the Western Democracies, we have legitimate tools to gain a majority in our legislatures and we should use our collective and individual innocence as our major leverage - the innocent pay the heaviest price in every war.

No more!

Mother's Day, and the ultimate political challenge!

Christianity dis-empowers the Mother. So too most Political power systems active today.

God is male and has no partner. 'He' has no Origin, no birthing, no Mother. He does not 'need'.

This is the idealised psychopathic male - total control over all, impervious, invulnerable.

I strongly feel that these kinds of Religions or ideologies are outcomes of unresolved trauma, a form of PTSD that has become the 'norm' over time, and has been Institutionalised...

If ten people with unresolved trauma issues create a social structure, it will have that psychology built into it and it will express or articulate that psychology by it's processes, in it's aims and intent, and in it's outcomes.

ALL the structures of Power that we have today have their origins in psycho-pathological social structures that have emerged over history.

The Department of Defence. We have no Department of Peace, no ministry of conflict resolution.
The Vatican is a Power structure much more than it is a spiritual structure, or a temple...

If those ten people who have unresolved trauma issues start families and they have children, then aspects of the adults psychology will be taken up by the children, to greater or lesser degree.. this is intergenerational trauma patterning.. the trauma remains unresolved, the patterns continue to be passed on as 'normal'.

If the children are put through a rigorous conditioning process known as 'State Education' or 'Private Education', both of which are social structures created by people whose unresolved trauma issues permeate those systems, and they fail to recognise and then deal with the unresolved trauma issues, then the patterning will go deeper, because the experience of 12 years in such a social setting will leave it's mark, and one of those marks will be the neurological pathways associated with the assumptions, and the internalisations of the systems values, which are mostly PTSD based.

These children will become adults who see the unresolved trauma state as 'normal'. They will continue to build this into their lives, and they will continue to support  the normalisation of PTSD values...

And in all of this it is considered 'normal' that Mothers work is unpaid, unmentioned in economic scales, ignored in political power plays and undermined by primary economic assumptions such as both parents need to be in debt and need to be working to pay of the debt to fit in to the 'home ownership demographic' - the 'value' to the system of that indebtedness supersedes the value of mothering. This is blatantly an insanity. It's profoundly unhealthy.

Nurture is the only pathway through all of this.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!

Let's make it more than a once yearly, coy, sly nod to Motherhood. Let's put mothering at the centre, with the welfare of the children , now and for generations to come at the VERY centre, the core of our culture.

It's EASY to wish Happy Mothers Day, and so many cards, flowers etc make it a commercial venture - yet to do the HARD WORK of mothering, or to bring THAT to the core of our Society whether one is male or female is to challenge EVERY THING we are given, every ideology and religion, every known economic system, at the most profound level of all - the reality of nurture. The lived experience. The day-to-day life.

Who has the 'balls' for this work?

Who is mature enough to stand with ALL the mothers in daily action?

Violence, Women, Mothers and a decent wage....

Two items crossed my desk today, as they do...

The first was that yesterday was UN International Elimination of Violence against Women Day. Which includes mothers.

The Guardian ran an article on the World Health Organisations data on this.

"A new report from the World Health Organisation has drawn together data from dozens of studies and found that worldwide, 35% of women have experienced violence - and that the consequences for their health can be devastating"

The health consequences of violence are always devastating. One follows the other, like night and day.

We do live in a hierarchically violent culture - the strong beat on the weak, in politics, in economics, religion and in many other ways, some so subtle that they are accepted as 'normal', and even justified by so called 'innocent' bystanders, who lose their innocence with that acceptance.

Ignorance is bliss. Ihe innocence of the conditioned mind.

There is no such thing. That often unwitting unknowingness is far from innocent, it is the bedrock upon which violent hierarchies thrive. And getting angry with that sector, the innocent 'ignorant' does not help them escape.... only empathy can do that.

Just as only empathy can drive through the changes required to fulfil the United Nations aim, which all decent people share, of course. How could we not?

Yes some men will scream out about 'violence against men' ... missing the point altogether, though there is violence against men - war, for want of  a better word, yet they keep going to those war movies, and they keep on enlisting and they keep on learning how to kill. And wanting to do the job they were trained for? Ouch! C'mon!

OK. I AM being facetious here, and the issue of violence against women is clouded for some men who feel that 'feminism' (a term so general that it can only be defined as it is used,it must be qualified to have any real sense, meaning or context) is anti-men.

It's not. Some feminists are anti-men, and probably so 'cos they are angry, they are hurting somewhere deeply, and they feel things so intensely because some things are if we face them honestly extremely painful, and actually that's ok, it's nothing to be frightened by, it's healthy to feel that pain to some degree, it's an expression of a valid feeling - just don't give them guns! The boys or the girls..

Jokes aside, the thrust of a given concept is not defined by an individuals actions, other than in relation to that specific individual.

Women are exposed to a lot of hostility just because they are women, and that's plain nuts. It really is. And it's dangerous... and so something needs to change, and it's different things in different places, because the hostility towards women takes many forms, some of them cultural.

The next thing that came across my desk is part of the resolution of violence against women, and will lead to a a massive reduction in hostility towards women, and in the long term hostility in general, benefiting society massively.

It's the petition by the Global Women's Strike to the UK Government for a living wage for mothers and carers. The background document to this petition is well prepared, detailed and easy to digest. And it's accurate.

The petition was published on the 1st of May 2013. it has only clocked up 557 names since then! What? Only 557 names? In 6 months?

"Houston, we have a problem here..!"

You see what I mean about the hostility towards women? towards Mothers! Think the Unions have a hard time bargaining for better wages? Nothing on what the Mothers are faced with!

I recommend reading the background paper and then consider signing the petition, or not, as the case may be. The read is a good read. If if one does not at first support the proposition. You WILL learn something.
