Don't You Dare Blame the Voters!

“How can wealth persuade poverty to use its political freedom to keep wealth in power? Here lies the whole art of Conservative politics in the 20th century.”
― Aneurin Bevan

Those who Rule spend a lot of money, employ a lot of people and devote a lot of energy to make every effort to assure that that persuasion works, and one part of it is getting the people they did not persuade to hate the persuaded more than they might want to reach out, understand and help liberate the persuaded or even protect those vulnerable to being persuaded. I want to address that dynamic in this blog article.

Blaming the voters is a dead end, it leads to nowhere useful, and gets one there immediately. Likewise the charge of 'apathy' frequently laid against those who do not vote.

We cannot claim we have a functioning democracy when industrial scale political grooming and gaslighting campaigns are operating with impunity.

"The grooming (gaslighting) of human vulnerability is one of most vile things any human being can do to another."

Emotions influence a huge part of our behaviour.

Triggering other peoples emotions in order to exploit the other person is an assault, whether it is legally defined or not... if you do this in a relationship, it's abuse.

If you do this socially, it is abuse.

Feelings carry information about how we are, our state of being.

It's about the quality of the lived experience. We call this qualitiative data. It cannot be 'measured', in can be observed, felt, recorded, described nonetheless. It is not something AI can relate to, ever.

Both our emotions and our feelings are also a beautiful intelligence, when they are integrated, at ease in the body of the person experiencing the emotion, the feeling, conveying qualitative information, that can be felt and empathised with, understood. A language without words. Sometimes sadness is not the dispair, or the loss, or the pain. It's more than these. Happiness too.

Vulnerability is part of our human evolutionary strength; our sensitivity is rooted in our intelligence, our brains imagining ability, that visual invention lab in the mind is the desing tool, and the task is to nurture love, and receive love as a social creature in a social context, with the materials to hand.

Emotions are rooted in our past experience and our present perceptions, they involve biological processes and body mind reactions that are also hormones, neural signal path-time, muscle tone, adrenaline levels, converted into extremely rapid, invisible and visible body mind changes which we ourselves do not really notice.

Until it's over, and we decide, yes, that is what I meant to do.

We know this is normal behaviour, fully conscious free will in total control is an illusion, the biology proves it.

We also know cultural or habituated behaviour is not genetically driven, culture is learned and we know that epigenetic reactions to trauma or epigenetic response to loving care can influence behaviour, down through generations.

Regular or chronic disruption to any body regulatory system habituates the person exposed, and this it alters behavioural dynamics incrementally, over time.

"repeat a lie often enough, with force, and it will be internalised as a truth."

Deliberatly triggering someone to elicit a reaction is a disruption generator.

Much of the disruption occurs below conscious control, in the autonomic systems, in the practiced habituations, in what we have learned accumulatively from repeated experience...one way or the other.

Therefore the target is to a very large degree defenceless if the targeter can refine the material with which the target is being triggered, without the target knowing this is happening.

Of course, wrap this in Marketing, and you are 'merely' doing business, growing the economy by selling products to a demographic, seeking the best hooks to maximise your potential capture rate... sounds inoccuous.

It's not.

Triggering other peoples emotions in order to exploit the other person is an assault.

Period.

It is defined within Law covering Domestic Abuse, which is about relationships.

That is what is 'winning' the popularity contest the Corporate Media has made of Democratic Elections.

A population level case of psychological assault.

Political grooming gangs..... a previous piece.

If you want to know more about where this is coming from in greater detail, then this piece by Kitty Jones is superbly researched and will be of use.

"
The revelations about Cambridge Analytica indicate clearly that western governments are subverting democracy"

Don't you DARE blame the voters.

No.

Do not even mention the non voters... really.

They are innocent in all of this too.

And don't blame Corbyn either.

Cummings, he's accountable for all of this.

Lynton Crosby, the Marketing Industry, Integrity Initiative, Blair, Johnson, Trump and their psponors - and all the liars and all those who allowed them to lie often enough that millions of people internalised 'Corbyn is a Communist', 'Corbyn is a Terrorist' or and even 'Corbyn protected pedophiles' (probably just a few thousand people on that one... enough to shift a seat from Labour to Conservative where there is a small difference between their votes - Kensington was taken by Cons, from Labour, with a 250 vote 'majority'. The previous election with went the other way, with a 150 vote 'majority' for Labour. The Tories did not need to gain more votes, they needed to trigger the right numbers of people with emotional content to vote reactively.

Up to the neck in organised institutional micro-targeting of trigger materials, lies and dirty tricks.

We are all exposed.

The Marketing Industry abusing psychology to sell alcohol, bleach, guns, crisps, chocolate, sex toys, and anything else that can be made and sold by exploiting people's studied vulnerabilities.

It's utterly corrupt, and the Powerful have jumped on the tool provided, and have exposed a trail that describes the manipulating behaviour in greater detail than they realised, they were so cock-sure and self-congratulatory.... blatantly, do not blame other voters, do not shout at each other.

Remember when Syria ('The Assad Regime is a caricature) was accused of using chemical weapons?  The UN didn't find any evidence, whatsoever. Their research show background traces of Chlorine. The Media reported presence of Chlorine. Lies, repeated often enough, become internalised. That's why they lie all the time.... habituation.

"Nothing I read however, came close to the dishonesty and deception I experienced while at Newsweek. Previously, I believed that not enough journalists questioned the government narrative sufficiently. I believed they failed to examine the facts with close enough attention and had not connected the dots as a handful of others had done.
No. The problem is far worse than that."

You know where to look. It's not just Facebook.

Here's how to 'fix' facebook.

Unless they introduce a restriction on triggering materials, and specifically real time micro targeting of political advertisements and election 'materials' disguised as mutliple grass roots entities that are merely webpages, and fronts.

Leave. They cannot function without us.

A day of none wuse will cost them.

A week will hurt them.

A month will close them down.

It's not highly likely, it is a possibility.

Mitt Romney : Cycles of abuse, Remorse or Denial, and Power

In The Rumpus, Steve Almond wrote a wonderfully clear piece about Mitt Romney, a Republican Presidential Candidate in the USA, concerning Romneys abusive behaviour (high school pranks) as a teenager. It is called THE WEEK IN GREED #6: To Behave Like the Fallen World

This piece is not so much about Romney as about the lack of empathy which we see all the time in those who assume or take power into their hands, be it national, international or at the local level or even within our own families, and the great difficulty the rest of us have when it comes to dealing with this, and the adverse outcomes for so many people of this dynamic.

Alice Miller wrote many books about how, if as  child, one is bullied or mistreated by parents, by Institutions, by society, or by circumstance and one is unable to resolve the situation, that suppression of one's true feelings becomes a mechanism of psychic survival, and this leaves the feelings anger, grief and sadness still alive, yet masked, buried, hidden from awareness.

These hidden, buried feelings then start to colour how one behaves towards oneself and others. The anger can be directed against oneself (shame, self loathing) or against the next generation, or against one's own children or against some 'other': the enemy 'created' by those in power as the receiver of these unresolved feelings, especially the anger and rage.

The problem is compounded by the fact that until these feelings are resolved, they remain alive within, and that even if a person acts out that anger, it will remain available for re-stimulation, again and again.

Alice Miller showed how this experience of mistreatment, abuse, trauma can become an intergenerational pattern, (the children of traumatised parents will grow up within that PTSD psychological environment, and whilst not all turn out with such adverse behaviours, many do, usually due to the lack of an ameliorating presence, what Miller calls an 'enlightened witness', certainly enough to populate systems of power and oppression, to fill the ranks of armies and paramilitary groups, often claiming 'it is for your own good') and others have written about Historical Trauma to show how any community that is traumatised can find itself traumatising it's own children, or each other, in a cycle of abuse and neglect.

This is akin to Lateral Violence, where violence erupts between those who have been subject to abuse from a more Powerful source which they cannot counter. Lateral Violence also occurs in hierarchical bureaucracies, in care systems.

Others have shown how Power can utilise that distressed behaviour to lay blame on those who show the signs of distress in addiction, obesity, psychological distress, inability to conform to 'standards' - people who are used as examples of how not to behave in conformity with 'a fallen world'.

And then there's the history of Power creating enemies to bind the people over whom Power has traction.

This is a very large part of what drives politics and power.

The writers own admission and remorse is the healing of all this, and is the kind of response required to lead towards ending the intergenerational re-traumatising cycles.

It is based on self-empathy.

For to feel the pain of another, beyond mere intellectual comprehension (compassion), is based on one's own sense of pain. And to feel remorse for hurt caused, is to understand that the others pain is real and visceral; it is a living sensation that pain has the same effect on the other as it does to oneself, and that one would not wish that upon any other any more than one would wish it upon oneself.

Expecting those who seek Power to have empathy is folly. Recognising this, it becomes essential to heal this dynamic in oneself as a personal praxis and study of power and oppression, and where it truly matters and where it can be extended is at the grass roots, in one's own life, one's own family and one's community.

If this can be done, then Power will find itself without the necessary accomplices, without which it cannot act.

From the comments on the piece (and elsewhere when such matters are raised), we can see that some people are yet willing to minimise what happened in Romney's case as being in the past, as being high school bullying, as being minor in comparison to the larger issues.

This is not the case. These events are linked in the lives of so many Power leaders, from the Kings of England, the Emperors of Rome, from Hitler to Stalin. And they are linked in the lives of the many people who populate bureaucracies of power.

The Vatican's 'response' to the testimony of courageous Survivors or clerical abuse is another example of this dynamic.

The Irish Presidential Candidates Curious Silence

A Chara,

The most troubling thing about this 'race', Presidential this election is that NONE of the candidates inspire confidence or hope.

That one of them will get the post, by default, is the reality.

Not a word from any of them about the Institutional Abuse of Children that has been deeply embedded in Irish Society for most of the Republics existence..... be it by the State or by the Church(es) or anyone else.

Indeed no-one is talking (yet) about the abuse which occurred in the 'better' schools - Clongowes, Blackrock, Newbridge, Rockwell et al where the scions of Irish elites were 'educated' in preparation for their future positions as the 'good and the great'. Is there a link between that silence, and the views of some who might, in private, claim that their experience in such schools ‘made a man of me’?

Of all the Political and Statuary posts in Ireland, surely it is the role of the President to be the voice of all those children, given the failures of the past, starting with Dev himself, who clearly ignored and suppressed the horrific truth from the word go, an omission that led directly to my own trauma as a child during the 60s and 70s.

Apparently not. I am appalled at the behaviour of Irish Society in this regard. I do not blame the candidates alone, for they are simply a part of that culture, and it is, in truth for ALL people in Ireland to think long and hard about this and to gather some courage and act as empathy, decency and justice suggests!

The Economics of Habitat and The Invisible Natural Child

Tony Juniper @ LSE

Last night I attended a lecture by Tony Juniper, a well known ecology activist, at LSE. It was titled 'Education for Sustainable Developement.

http://www2.lse.ac.uk/publicEvents/events/2010/20100304t1830vNT.aspx

“This event will explore the role of universities in driving the sustainability agenda.

Tony Juniper is a campaigner, writer, and a senior associate with the Cambridge University Programme for Sustainability Leadership.

Professor Janet Hartley is Pro-director for teaching and learning at LSE.”

It was for me an informative occasion. I learned nothing new about the problems we face.

So what did I learn?

I learned that for far too many ‘educated’ and ‘concerned’ people the blindingly obvious is absolutely unseen, and more importantly not felt.. Even when it is pointed out in the starkest of terms….

Tony Juniper started out by saying we have to look to where we are going, what is next, what lies ahead and reviewed what had already happened, what ‘we’ had already achieved.

By way of mitigating the worst or at least some of the worst problems that have arisen.

By way of pressure groups helping to drive some Government Regulation.

Tony pointed out that ‘we’ had some successes in the past since Silent Spring.

‘We’ had banned DDT and a few other powerful pesticides, and changed the methods by which pesticides and herbicides were applied – from a wholesale drenching to a carefully modulated application. What he did not mention was that the use of GMOs and novel pesticides and herbicides, in smaller quantities is still the standard practice for the bulk of the US and US AID sponsored farming wherever it is delivered…

Tony pointed out ‘We’ had stopped the production and use of CFCs. Tony pointed out that these measures did not preclude the use of fridges, etc etc. that solutions were found, alternative chemicals produced to do the same job.

What he did not say was what effect those new chemicals will have in the long term. He didn’t even mention this novel concept. Because no-one knows in the long term. Not really. Probables, with caveats. We don’t even know if the Ozone hole will repair itself..

Industrial Chemistry is one giant experiment....no! really, it is an experiment. and the only pertinent data-set produced thus far has more to do with this is how NOT to do things... than anything else...

Tony pointed out that ‘we’ had managed to deal with acid rain, a by product of massive coal burning, by installing technology to clean and sequester the carbon emitted from power stations..

What he did not say was that the burning of coal in massive quantities for manufacturing was exported to countries with less onerous regulatory systems. So that they too could develop. By making our consumer products using cheaper labour, garnering greater profits for the brand names.

Tony was saying that ‘we’ have had some successes, that Governments have been able to encourage these moves, and to regulate them…

Tony also made the point that this was not just a question of economics, but of justice, and referred briefly to the imbalance in wealth, and in use of the earths ‘resources’ between the West and the developing world… the figures are well known, though variable…

Tony’s brief lecture ran over the salient points regarding the environmental approach that sees nothing but ‘resources’ in nature… and is causing untold damage everywhere that approach is actively being pursued.

Tony made comparisons between what nature provides as ‘services’ that are not paid for, ‘externalities’ as they are known in the economics trade.

The ludicrous, yet to all economists, sound evaluation of what those ‘services’ provide in dollar comparison looked like this at the time of the comparison : the world economy valued at $18 Trillion, nature’s services valued at between $30 to  $50 Trillion, all in US dollars? As if US Dollars are somehow a standard against which nature can be assessed.

Nature traded as a commodity.

Is this comparison itself not indicative of the myopia of the ‘educated’ and ‘concerned’? I think so. I feel it. However Tony suggested that the work done to point this out was good work. It was done by an LSE alumni, I believe.. well of course!

In essence Tony was pointing out that Government regulation must increase, and must be focussed on all of the above and on Justice.

Finally Tony pointed out that ‘we’ need to see our selves as part of nature, that there needs to be a philosophical, social and psychological element to the changes ‘we’ need to make.

And that more or less was his lecture. Question time.

I was sitting in the front. I was determined to put the cat amongst the pigeons. I had no intention of asking Tony a question. I had a statement of fact to make….

I introduced myself as Corneilius, who is writing a book about the harmful effects of telling children what to think with sanctions imposed on them for any reasonable dissent, and that I was pleased to hear Tony’s remarks concerning a change in philosophy, as surely this was the basis, the baseline, if you will.

I pointed out that imposing thought on a child with sanctions for non-compliance was damaging to the natural child in much the same way we are damaging the environment, and is a cultural phenomenon that lies at the very heart of Compulsory State Education.

I mentioned ‘tabula rasa’, the blank slate, the empty vessel mode of seeing children, a mode of perception (not observation, and certainly not scientific) that viewed education as the process of pouring information into these empty vessels. And how that was the scientific basis of Compulsory State Education….

I also mentioned that the use of Ritalin as a means to manage dissent  amongst children no longer subject to corporal punishment was an appalling indictment of the culture.  I ended by saying that we do indeed need to change our philosophy and listen to the natural child.

Tony understood what I was saying, and pointed out that for example, the state spends £140,000 a year incarceration children who had been failed by the system, and that within the Green Party, they are discussing this issue.

Then questions went on to other attendees…. Mostly asking Tony what we need to do…. The great man advises ….. and to be fair his advice centered on the change of heart, of philosophy that is needed more than the technicalities….

There was one question, to my right, quite late in the session, that referred to my statement, by stating the following, quite energetically, after someone had pointed out the homogenising effect of the predominant culture….

‘It’s all very well talking about listening to children, but the problems we are facing are immensely complex, and require complex solutions …. For example The Body Shop spent 10 years and more getting to know the individual farmers and producers of their range of raw materials and products, so that they could say they knew who their money was going to, how it was being used to support those communities. This was a complex operation. Now the body shop is taken over by L’Oreal, a huge international corporation, for whom such an operation is way to complex… so my question is this. How can we get these companies to undertake these very complex processes?”

Tony’s answer to this question eventually came to the point that basically it all starts from simplicity.  I would have cited bacteria and simplicity as the very basis of natural complexity…. And thrown in a few well known examples… but there wasn’t time for Tony to do that…

I think Tony Juniper is a good man. I think he understands the problem of conditioning. The chair of the LSE lecture is a committed , conscientious educator. As are all those who attended. WE are all well meaning. The good intent is clear. Based upon my observations,  in nature results indicate intention... and there is much research to suggest this a fair generalisation.

Tony let us know that he would be  standing as a Green Party Candidate in Cambridge. That came up in response to a question what on the prospects for the environment were if David Cameron were to be the next Prime Minister. (Jesus wept!) Politics is irrelevant in this debate.

These issues lie beyond politics. Post normal science is the technical term for the philosophy behind climate change science.... decide policy in extremis, use focussed science to find what you want to solve the problem......

I feel the discussion did not pick up on the meaning and import of the statement I made at the start of the Q&A, not in any real way. Because for the most part people cannot see it, feel it. Really? Actually they can...

And is that itself not the core problem?

By not listening to, and acting on the sensing of the natural child 'we' are setting the grounds for the very philosophies and mind-sets that are creating the problems, and it is a mirror of the way in which nature is treated as a commodity. An object to be used, to be trained and coerced to meet ‘our needs’?

Indeed.

As ever 'We' discuss the symptoms, 'we' ignore the cause and 'we' watch the patient die…..

Tragedy and Farce…. Oscar Wilde would have known what to say…

“I am so clever that I do not understand myself” or words to that effect…

note :

It is of course truthful to say that I have omitted 90% of what actually was said during this lecture…

There will be a podcast and transcripts of the lecture posted on the LSE site in the next few days - and I will be interested to see whether or not my take on this event is at all accurate.

Kindest regards
