The Corruption of The Curriculum.

I read this rather clear and yet short piece, on the 'corruption of the curriculum' and it's a damning indictment of Educational policy and tinkering with teaching practice, learning 'styles' and course content.

It states the following :

"The school curriculum has been corrupted by political interference, according to a new report from independent think-tank Civitas. The traditional subject areas have been hi-jacked to promote fashionable causes such as gender awareness, the environment and anti-racism, while teachers are expected to help to achieve the government's social goals instead of imparting a body of academic knowledge to their students."

The article then outlines in concise language some of the 'corruptions' and their adverse effects.

The describe 'educational apartheid' (subjects excluded for some students based on income and class), 'history without dates' (without a coherent narrative), a policy of behavioural change that reduces

It's well worth a read, and I would like to put it in context, "join-the-dots" so to speak. To go further. To clarify.

After all, it was issued by Civitas, who are pretty much a right wing think tank, and why would I be impressed by what ever spewed forth from such an establishment. So I gotta put that right. I am not at all impressed, because the article itself is tinkering, and while it makes a critique that has some substance, it fails (as intended) to set things in context.

Has anyone mentioned to you that it is known, and proven, that State Education was initially instigated by intensive and long-term lobbying from business?

"
Perhaps the greatest of school's illusions is that the institution was launched by a group of kindly men and women who wanted to help the children of ordinary families—to level the playing field, so to speak."

It was of course,  presented as philanthropy,  the trojan horse of modern social engineering effected by the use of wealth, by stealth. And yes some people really did believe they were genuine seeking to help others and to help 'mankind'.

In fact there was close to a century of lobbying at  local, national and international levels of Industrial Society, and a huge, vast amount of money was spent over that time in this project to introduce Compulsion Schooling for all children.

"The real makers of modern schooling were leaders of the new American industrialist class, men like:

Andrew Carnegie, the steel baron...
John D. Rockefeller, the duke of oil...
Henry Ford, master of the assembly line which compounded steel and oil into a vehicular dynasty...
and J.P. Morgan, the king of capitalist finance...

The primary driver was of this project was the power and control of business, mostly the coal business, which with coal being the first fossil fuel, has a certain resonance with corporate power play within Governance by the
petroleum industry. that we know today ... the coal and steel business was or became the central power in 'Civilisation' and one of the most aggressive in terms of 'expansion' (globalisation) and in terms of infiltrating Governance. The project to compel all children into education started in the 1750s.

And what has happened is that for a while it worked, as all training does, then some people started to see through the system, and found ways to use it as the basis for real learning outside the system, and began to resist the indoctrination and worse, actively self organise.

Power cannot allow that. For two reasons.

!. To many power players is dangerous if they are all equals.  There has to be manageable limits.

2. "If some 'poor' people learn to do what we are doing, we are out of business. So let us 'educate' them such that they cannot really learn, but can remember what they have been told, and they'll confuse memorising for learning. And we will set the psychological limit within the education SYSTEM, the systemic process does the work, not merely the curriculum."

The curriculum can be tinkered with, both by Power and by those Power allows, within limits and under their watchful eyes.

The article I quoted is complaining about the tinkering, and not the system. It prefers the 'traditional tinkering'. That's as far as it goes.

Not impressive.

The SYSTEM must  remain, even as it's façade is ever changing as either genuine empathic understanding emerges (they can't fool all the people all of the time) which Power will always seek to co-opt, by systematising whatever emerges organically, thus neutering any potential threat to Power it might represent.

Any right winger knows this. Well, the ones who dictate policy. Who ever they are..

This is partly why John Taylor Gatto says we must disestablish the SYSTEM, retaining the infrastructure and applying and modifying those infrastructure so that they can be used as places of self motivated learning, where the full person is allowed to grow, as such to truly meet the needs of the children, and indeed of all of us, as natural learners.

"
After a long life, and thirty years in the public school trenches, I've concluded that genius is as common as dirt. We suppress our genius only because we haven't yet figured out how to manage a population of educated men and women. The solution, I think, is simple and glorious. Let them manage themselves."

Self motivated, self organised.
Self Governing. Common Sense. Biologically mandated.

The article is a brief overview of a book, by Frank Furedi...

'The Corruption of the Curriculum' by Frank Furedi, Shirley Lawes, Michele Ledda, Chris McGovern, Simon Patterson, David Perks and Alex Standish is published by Civitas, 77 Great Peter Street, London SW1P 2EZ

Fear of the Transparent Honest Child : The Natural Child

What have the designers and operators of the culture of dominance, that ideology and system of governance, education, religions and so forth that I was born into, to fear from the honest transparent child?

What kind of parent fears the honest child?

This is a question that contains an implication, which is that system of dominance does indeed fear the honest transparent child.

Bullies fear honesty.

The evidence for this is partly my personal experience, which is primary knowledge, a micro event that contains fractals of macro events within this ideology of dominant culture.

They feared me and attempted to control me. They had no empathy for the child I was.

My experience is common enough, with a wide bandwidth of abuses deemed ‘appropriate‘, from the slight to the extreme. Smacking and raising one’s voice to beatings and humiliation. Punishment and reward.

There is ample evidence from recent history, from the recorded actions and consequences of ‘rulers’ behaviour, and that of whole civilisations, that the indoctrination of all children was and remains prioritised, was and is still deemed essential.

Education loaded with reward/punishment dynamics that deliberately render the child powerless.

In essence that says those rulers did not and do not trust the natural child.

That each and every child must be taught to accept or adapt to training or coercion in ways that could be manipulated.

Hitler youth. Pop Fans. Republican or Democrat or Liberal voters. Brexit. (in the future, from whence I write this edit,)

The existence of ‘Liberal’ political parties within Western Democracy came from fear, not from empathy. The fear that if the Rulers did not make some concessions to the ruled,  trouble would stalk the land.

What is not trusted, is feared. Fear is the first justification for violence. All violence is self-interest.

Fear and hatred are twins in the hands of Power.

Why this fear, when it would appear that those in control are omnipotent, ubiquitous?

A good question... If the Rulers are so omnipotent, why are they so fearful?

What did those who abused me as a child, and what did I, when I abused my friends and bullied my children, in later years, have to fear from the honest transparent child?

Honesty first and foremost, for the honesty flags up my own crimes, flags up the Rulers crimes, clear as day. And that honesty also means that I behaving like a bully, and that the system of dominance behaviours will meet resistance. Honesty is a sign that the ideology is no longer operational.

“Stop what you are doing, I am frightened you are going to hurt me!”

Before a child gets to the point where he or she hates his parent, carer, that’s the sentence she or he would like most to utter. That and “What the hell do you think you are doing?”

The first is a command, yet the child is powerless. The first is a law of natural humane adults : no harm shall come to the children, and yes, in spite of that, the child is powerless.

The second is of course an honest question, and a demand!

The child is, of course powerless.

However the honest transparent adult is not powerless.

Far from it. Indeed she or he has far more natural power than the narcissistic controlling psychopath; the power to connect with all life, to sense that universal quality and feel the unity of life as it manifests on Earth, the home of natural human beings, as real and foundational and as a great gift.

A recognition of life as an act of supreme love.

Indoctrination is by design and intent an attempt to undermine that recognition, that source of identity. When one does not trust oneself, there is fear of self. Narcissus looked to his reflection on the water for a sense of identity. He looked without, rather than within. Approval as identity basis. If you need a mirror to see yourself it is only because you have lost who you are from within.

And the narcissistic psychopath. who has internalised the values of those who have abused him or her, can rest only when she or he feels that they have total control, over others and over nature. That control is needed to ward away the awareness of the pain of the loss of self. It is sensed as a loss of the plot......

And is therefore on a lifelong mission. Which is not yet, nor will it ever be, complete, and certainly not in the way the narcissistic psychopath might imagine. The only long term result is collapse. The strain on self and environment is too much. Nature wins. Always. Psychosis is nature calling.

Carl Rogers, and later on John Wier Perry, outlined that in the 50s, 60s and 70s and showed with the Diabasis project that psychosis was a pathway towards self-discovery, towards wholeness of the person and not to be feared, but to be taken as a call for balance. And the best assistance was empathetic companionship and what he called 'unconditional positive regard'....... Rogers trusted the innate self healing of all living cells, and sought to facilitate that self-healing. Thus he avoided Instruction. Indoctrination. Medication. And he succeeded.

Our lives are short. Our time is precious. It must be lived with as much transparent honesty as the soul, the unique sense of identity, the happening of being can craft though the agency of the body on this fertile Earth That is what the design implication of the human body experience is. Joy. In being. Oneself, transparent, relaxed. Breathing easy.

Any attempt to indoctrinate a child, as done in these dominatory cultures, is an attempt to rob that living being of that unique and innate joy-fullness, which is a grievous loss to the child; and to add insult to injury, the persons life is then manipulated to the ends of the indoctrinator :a narcissistic psychopath.

Again, let me say that when one does not trust oneself, there is fear of self. Narcissis looked to his reflection on the water for a sense of identity. He looked without, rather than within. external approval as identity basis. Image replaces sensing.

Young men and women don’t become soldiers. They are made. Trained to kill on command. Clearly those who do feel no guilt, no remorse and have no operational conscience nor friendly empathy nor will those who orchestrate such conditions be merciless. Torturers. Special Forces. Secret Police. And those who control them. They to can have no conscience. The School of the Americas. David Stirling. Idi Amin. George Bush. Pinochet.

Corrupted good people are racked with guilt. A guilt they rationalise away. A guilt they compartmentalise.

They could be soldiers, policemen, civil servants, corporate managers. You. Me.

Its always a choice. They sell their lives, their integrity. They deny their remorse, they rationalise their complicity as best they can … and they know. And they can become narcissistic psychopaths. In that corruption and complicity is a ‘gateway’ experience. Or they can acknowledge what they are doing and stop.

When more chose to stop, when more choose not to be corrupted, then the system of dominance reveals itself in whatever way to those who are complicit, to those who rationalise it’s violence. And recognition of that violence leads to honesty. Honesty to resistance.

And that is the true state of the honest, transparent adult. To resist that which is oppressive.

Interestingly enough within the project of Compulsion Schooling lies a virus, a methodology that thwarts the natural maturing process, that stills the critical thinking that arises from a naturally empathetic humane being, as most children are, that extends adolescence way beyond it’s time, that infantilises those who succumb. The archives show this clearly.

Which is why advertising works.

Obama. 2012. The Rapture. Hope. Manipulation of those who can be manipulated. For power and for profit.

As adults we have the power to resist oppression, indoctrination and propaganda in way the natural child has not, because we are now on an equal physical footing with the oppressor. THAT is why the State is armed to the teeth. Not to 'protect' people. To intimidate people.

The threat of extreme violence is all that holds the modern state and the rapacious corporation as either stands, with all the 'exported trauma' that goes with those structures : (if one lives in, say the ‘peaceful’ cities of London or Paris or Berlin or countries that claim this ‘peace‘ and believes in it, and fails to ‘see’ the externalised costs of those cities, towns and country systems, the trauma has been exported from ones awareness.).

As adults we can choose not to accept indoctrination, lies, propaganda and we can choose to confront that where we find it.

It all comes down to choice.

A school run by children, assisted by adults

Short documentary on an independent 'school' in Copenhagen, from the 70s, that explores why such a school might exist. The footage shows happy lively children and adults learning together, and the commentary reveals the thinking behind the school.

This is what all children and parents need to understand, that childrens learning is best driven by their own motivations, that children want to become competent in the world they are born into, that 'thinking alone' is a vital creative drive in all people and that democracy without this in place in all it's constituents is a farce, a soap opera that distracts attention and enables control by forces whose interests are not the same as those of most 'ordinary folk'.

Thugs vs Warriors

Thugs and Warriors

Warriors prevent violence, firstly by their firm presence, secondly by their focused applied might… should the genuine need arise.

Thugs act as a threat, and carry out violence as a form of ‘insurance’ for their employers and because they enjoy the power. Some like the blood.

Do our soldiers stand AROUND communities to protect them, or do they STAND AWAY, threatening violence subject to conformity with their leaders wishes?

I assume that a large percentage believe themselves to be warriors. How could it be otherwise? I know that those who send soldiers into war, especially the political leaders, understand that 'their' troops are employed as thugs. One has only to look at the results of such leadership and the ‘reasonings’ that they proffer for knowingly sending troops into harms way. And worse, those leaders know full well that it will be civilians, women and children who will bear the brunt of any fighting.

Stupid?

While so many people get worked up about 'climate change' and GET VAST MAINSTREAM MEDIA ATTENTION : (The Age Of Stupid, An Inconvenient Truth) and concurrenlty the war crimes being committed in Iraq, Afghanistan, Congo et al are pretty much unexplored by that mainstream media, are 'reported' without any real depth or analysis, I am left wondering WHY?

Who benefits from this?

How can anyone honestly expect success in the realm of 'climate change' without also addressing directly the huge investment in War that is at the core of our societies?

The fact is that we cannot change the weather, we must live with it - and that is an adaptive process. We know that climate variations are the norm for Earth - and we know that the processes we are engaged in do not, as nature does, return nutrients to the system, so that they are then ready for use by other life forms, the ones we co-habit with, the ones we are dependent upon for everything from oxygen to clean water, once we have utilised the 'strategic raw materials' and that this is the biggest single identifiable causative factor in environmental degradation. The robbery of materials from those that need them.

This and War are not being addressed by the mainstream. The solutions proposed tend towards regulation and the monetising of pollution, so that the rich can afford to pollute, the poor pay with their lives. And The War Against Terror is also seen by those in power as a ‘solution’? And large numbers of intelligent media types buy this?

The 'stupidity' is deep indeed!

It’s roots are to be found in suppressed trauma.

Suppressed trauma.

Unless one has been through the process of working ones issues when one has been harmed or abused or humiliated as a child, it's very difficult to understand why so many people seem to appear to not take responsibility for themselves ..... to explore one's pain, and identify it's source takes courage and requires great honesty and energy. With all the pressures of living in a dysfunctional society that normalises dysfunction, it is hardly surprising that few take that hard road.

One must not be too harsh on people ... and at the same time we must seek to awaken the awareness of the effects of suppressed trauma ... though that is not to say to treat lightly those who abuse, especially when the abuse is obviously causing distress....and is visible, even if ignored or justified, by the abuser.

Those who as children experience abuse tend to suppress the memories (sometimes) and feelings (nearly always) associated with that abuse in order to survive psychically ...they most often have no-one to turn to after the events....supression is a survival tactic.... thus the pain, fear and anger remain within, buried deep within. Science now supports the concept that memories are stored not just in the brain, they are stored all over our bodies and that those stored and suppressed negative memories have severe consequences for those whose bodies hold such secrets.

There are so many societal sanctions against those who open up these wounds and who seek honest resolution, (which is less about punishment than it is about healing and remorse) not to mention the dynamics within families that 'cover up' and carry on...... a facade that is endemic in our society - the mainstream media being a concrete example of this being institutionalised and normalised.... state scerets indeed!

And to open up old wounds is often terrifying for the wounded, for there's a strong sense that the opening will cause serious trouble, break families apart etc etc.... so much resistance to the most painful truths of our lives.

This is 'struggling with your demons'.....

Thus most people have to suppress the feelings associated with trauma and just get on with it..... for who will listen to their stories, who will hold them while they cry, who will hear their anger and be there for them as they work through what they must if they are to live full, open and joyous lives, not to mention bringing about fundamental changes to our society in favour of healthy living for all life.

These wounds exist, the pain exists, they do not vanish, and these hidden wounds and pains are often triggered by current non-threatening yet irritable events in peoples live eliciting often extreme over-reactions and adverse control behaviours that cause further problems for all concerned.

Suppressed Trauma as a Policy Tool.

And worst of all, Governments and Religious Hierarchies understand this and use it in a quite calculated way to divide people, to create ’demons’ for people to dump their anger onto, to hire armies and deploy them and to distract people from the abusive nature of our society. .... eg : the near constant hysteria about paedophiles in the media, whilst almost complete silence about the deaths of over 340,000 children in Iraq ... and of course elsewhere... can you now see who benefits? Do not the weapons manufacturers, the jet makers and all the suppliers of war benefit? Do not the elite wealthy families and communities benefit? In their understanding they do indeed benefit.

While I of course undertsand peoples justifiable anger, I find it horrifying to hear people say 'paedo’s should hung, castrated etc etc' and at the same time those people will happily ignore The War in raq, where over 360,000 children have been murdered, and many more maimed for life (not to mention the 500,000 childrens lives lost during the 1990s as a result of the embargo and bombing campaign carried out by UK and US Air Forces, lives which Madelaine Allbright claimed were worth the price'..) - those people must be deeply conditioned to NOT REALLY THINK, to not really feel, to take emotional blindness as normal and that is very dangerous for us all, for our society. The unthinking cruelty of such statements is standard fare in the Mainstream Media.

The cruelty of those who cannot or will not think, who were the descendants of traumatised people themselves, was all too apparent in Rwanda, Germany in the 1930s and 40s, and indeed is blatantly obvious and can be read every day in 'newspapers' such as The Sun (UK) and others like it, and somewhat more modulated in the more 'intelligent' (?) press, yet present nonetheless.

Until we face the trauma, and release the pain, as individuals and as a collective, our society will create more and more thugs to thwart and crush the few remaining warriors amongst us. Those who ignore their inner pain are often those who cause the most pain.

That history repeats itself is a well worn and threadbare trusim, one that slips off the tongue far too easily, and mostly, unexamined. That is a serious flaw that must be addressed by all those who seek to help.
