European Catholic and Protestant Ruling Classes have waged wars using propaganda that amounted to Cognitive Warfare - the battle for hearts and minds - as they have competed for dominance using Cognitive Warfare.
The English used Cogntiive Warfare to present the Irish as an inferior subset of humanity during colonisation.
The same English businessmen who enacted The Plantation of Ireland under Cromwells rule invented theories of Racialism and Racism and created the category White People in the British Colonies on Turtle Island (North America) explicitly to weaponise European workers against all non-European workers because they feared the emergence of worker solidarity between the European and non European indentured and freed workers, slaves and Native peoples.
What is Cognitive Warfare you ask?
Cognitive Warfare is a modern conflict domain that targets the human mind rather than physical infrastructure. It uses artificial intelligence, neurosciences, and information manipulation to alter how societies and individuals perceive reality, fracturing social cohesion and degrading decision-making.
Astro-turfing:
Astroturfing is the deceptive practice of creating a false impression of widespread, spontaneous "grassroots" support for a cause, product, or politician. The name is a play on words derived from AstroTurf (brand-name synthetic artificial grass)—symbolizing a synthetic, manufactured imitation of genuine, organic public opinion.
Micro-targetting:
Microtargeting is a digital marketing and political strategy that leverages consumer data to analyze personal traits and deliver highly tailored ads to incredibly specific, granular audiences. It replaces broad demographics with hyper-personalized messaging based on location, browsing history, or specific interests to influence actions.
Most of the right wing online commentariat is Cognitive Warfare, with a small population of real people filling in as a front that can be identified and used as Astroturf rent-a-gang directed to take street level actions, protests, riots and so on.
The purpose of Cognitive Warfare includes triggering decent people to feel superior to the groomed people presenting bigotry, deepening divisions in the population, and includes generating a heightened sense of fear in the general population which certain political groups - centrists and authoritarians - can then exploit.
Psychological Abuse Legislation.
Cognitive Warfare is psychologically abusive. We need legislation defining Cognitive Warfare as a criminal offence -to intentionally wind vulnerable people up through emotional manipulation, misinformation etc., so that they can be nudged into behaviour that can be exploited is abusive.
When Trump, or Farage or Tommy Robinson or anyone else caricatures an entire group of people - immigrants - as being malign, inferior, a danger to the nation, in order to garner votes, or to get support for oppressive legislation, that is psychological abuse.
