Troop Morale, Overstretch and Spin.... truth is truth!

Recent media reports state that at least half of all enlisted personnel in the UK Military are considering leaving.

http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/news/article-1033922/Half-troops-want-quit-armed-forces-fighting-fronts-takes-toll.html

According to the reports this is due to ‘overstretch’.

The UK has around 4000 troops in Iraq, and 8000 in Afghanistan.

The total UK Military is around 150,000. Which means that at any one time there close to 10% of the UK Military is on active combat duty. With three shifts, we might extrapolate that 30% of the Military is on rotation. We know that nearly 90% of all military and reserves have served in Iraq or Afghanistan at one time or another. (my figures are approximate!)

During world war II that percentage was way higher, as were the overall numbers of military personnel. And of course the numbers of dead, wounded and traumatised were also higher. Yet very few ever thought to quitting. Morale was never so low.

Which begs the question : Are these reports correct in their assumption that ‘overstretch’ is the core issue?

Anecdotal evidence suggests that assumption is incorrect, and amounts to yet another ‘sexing up’, a spin on the situation designed to deflect attention from the core problem faced by UK troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

These wars are illegal. They are also morally wrong.

The brutality that troops almost inevitably bring to their ‘work’ in Iraq and Afghanistan is mostly situational - troops have no clearly defined, uniformed enemy, and must follow orders, even if those orders are illegal, in order to protect themselves and each other. (mutiny on the battlefield is fatal to all concerned as it leads towards vulnerability and chaos)

Once that brutality line is crossed, it is exceedingly difficult to work back towards the original premise - that these wars were about bringing peace and democracy, that there is a clearly defined enemy or an end in sight.

Add to that the blatant profiteering of those who initiated these wars, which is now next to near common knowledge (if not in detail, then in essence), and one begins to see that it is impossible for troops to continue. Better ‘equipment’, better pay will not make the difference. The Emperors nakedness is exposed and no amount of veiling will hide the fact.

What to do?

As a civilian who has great respect for those who do place their lives on the line, who undertake this most dangerous of ‘work’ out of a sense of honour, a sense of patriotism, a sense of wanting to give to the greater whole of society, I suggest the following :

Read the information placed on the www.makewarshistory.org.uk website regarding the Laws Prohibiting War.

http://www.makewarshistory.org.uk/mwh/2008/06/laws-prohibitin.html

Understand these laws, for they easy to understand, they are simple, they are clear.

Then, report the war crimes to your local police station, and demand that those who initiated these wars are held to account, demand that our troops be returned home immediately and give warm support all those troops who wish to no longer follow illegal (and immoral) orders.

Read the letter concerning the payment of taxes to the UK Central Government, and withold your taxes until the above is done.

http://www.makewarshistory.org.uk/mwh/2008/06/paye-letter.html

Do this to protect and honour our troops, and to protect the citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan, to enable them to decide their own future without interference from outsiders whose agenda is fundamentally one of greed - pipelines and the oil that flows through them. Privatised Downsized State Functions and the profits that accrue.

http://www.naomiklein.org/shock-doctrine/resources/part5/chapter14

Do this to honour all those who have died or have been injured or have been traumatised, do this to start the process of healing.

Do this because YOU are a promoter of peace, even if your Government is not.

Further action appropriate would be to strip all those who have profited from these wars of all their financial assets, and hand that cash back to those who really, truly need it.

Demand that Halliburton and Bechtel, Lockheed Martin and Northrupp Grumann, JP Morgan and BP/Amoco et al return to Iraq and Afghanistan to repair the damage they have caused (much in the manner we request young offenders to do community work for petty crimes) and that they return their ill gained profits to those they have so horribly ripped off…. at their own expense, and by employing Afghan and Iraq workers at reasonable wages, in the process of the reconstruction of their villages, towns cities and infrastructure.

I would dearly like to see Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Dick Cheny, Donald Rumsfeld and George Bush labouring repairing broken sewers in Baghdad as part of their penance.

And when all of this is done, then let us then say with some authority that “we stand for peace, for democracy, for peoples freedom, everywhere”.

Anything less than that is merely insult added to injury, death and trauma..

Try my songs on reverbnation (see the player on the top right of this page.) play them while doing all of the above!

George Bush pays homage to Queen...... what SKY censored!

The real news editor, Pablo Escobar, on George Bush, Gordon Brown and the farewell visit from one war criminal to another. What the media did not SHOW was the nature, extent and passionate committment of those strong hearted people who gathered to give voice to what so many, and certainly the majority of people feel, namely our deep disgust, our intense frustration and our moral outrage at The War Against Terror (TWAT), and in particular the UKs involvement in the illegal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and those activities such as curtailing our civil liberties 'for our own good' that are integral to that ignoble crusade.

Pablo Escobar waste not a single word in this searingly clear news analysis, one studiously avoided by almost the mainstream coverage in the UK. Enjoy!

Duty. Law and Responsibility.

makewarshistory - take action, legally!

I took part in in a peoples active street media peace action in london outside a UK military recruitment shop.... london june 12th 2008 ...watch this video to see the action and catch me making my feelings clear and eludicati' on my presence and participation. shoulda been doing this a long time ago.

makewarshistory outlines the legal situation regarding the UK involvement in two wars, aghanistan and iraq, and demonstrates the legal certainty the both wars are illegal, legally speaking : ie if one applied the law as it is written, and intended.

6 international treaties, plus the international criminal court act england and wales 2000 make it clear that these wars being illegal, the consequent murder of iraqi and afghan citizens, of all ages, the destruction of iraqi civil infrastructure, the use of banned munitions, the maltreatment, abuse and torture of prisoners and the blatant profiteering of us corporations combine to make these wars the ultimate crimes - crimes of war, crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity.

Thus is it the legal duty of any taxpayer that is aware of the law, to uphold that law. This means that a taxpayer, aware of the law, must withold his or her tax payments to the central government of the UK, and is legally protected under England and Wales Law, as outlined above, in so doing.

Furthermore, all orders issued to UK troops which lead to or aid the commission of these war crimes, are illegal, under UK Law, as outlined above, and it is therefore a soldiers legal duty, if not his or her legal obligation - with full support from those civilians who demand that the law be upheld - is to refuse to carry out those orders. Notwithstanding Health and Safety implications of said refusal, the import of a well informed public is profound, and an essential act of co-operation to support such action.

The law is clear.

"Conduct ancilliary to the commission of a war crime" is the legal status of anyone whomsoever who is offering material support to those institutions individuals and other agencies to any government involved in the commission of a war crime. Thus the paying taxes to the UK government, or submission to following illegal orders are conduct ancilliary to the commission of war crimes. In fact it becomes a crime to NOT act, once the facts have been made clear, the legal position appraised.

The action in upholding it is also clear.

- the details of the law - an easy read!

If ya don't believe me, please verify all this for yourself.

When NO means YES!

The citizens of Ireland were given the opportunity to voice their feelings regarding the Lisbon Treaty. They voted against the Treaty. They said "No!".

Reading the papers, the headlines suggested that the Irish had thrown the EU into a "crisis".

Listening to the Politicians, the suggestion was that the Irish electorate were ill-informed, spun a series of falsehoods, unable to understand the basics of the treaty and that it was somehow "undemocratic" that 800,000 odd people, with a margin of around 100,000 votes could influence the welfare of 250,000,000 people across Europe.

The underlying truth is that the vote was a vote of no confidence in the corrupt political elites of Ireland, a vote of no confidence in the basically undemocratic set-up of the EU Legislative process, a vote of no confidence in the concept of a unified European military bloc and essentially a resounding vote for Democracy.

The English people had been promised a referendum on the ratification of the Treaty, a promise that was reneged upon - for the reason that the likelyhood of a rejection of the Treaty by the English people was to be avoided at all costs.

12 States have ratified the treaty, non of which offered the option of a referendum to their people. The assumption behind this is that the people are too stupid to know what is good for them.

As The Power Inquiry 2006 showed clearly, the opposite is the case. The vast majority of the people are intelligent, compassionate and all too well aware of their combined interests and we desire the power that is withheld by the current status quo.

At no point did the arguments from the "yes" camp rely upon informed, detailed and well explained reasoning regarding the content of the Treaty (which in itself was rewritten as a technical document referring to thousands of other documents outside the Treaty itself, so as to obfuscate it's meaning) - the main argument proffered was that the people would somehow suffer, that the European project would somehow suffer if the Treaty was rejected.

Much like a parent shouting at a child "That's bad!" and offering no explanation to the child of exactly why other than "Because I say it is."

So well done to those Irish voters who voted NO to Lisbon and YES to democracy and accountability. And shame upon the politicians and media pundits who have suggested that this vote was undemocratic, ill-informed and negative.

Of course no-one is surprised that politicians and pundits behave in this way........ but by all the gods, the people are fed up with the relentlessly shoddy treatment, the corruption and ineptitude, the narcissistic, self serving oligarchical clique, a cult of greed, namely all those we have (s)elected to repressent us, yet who act ever in their own interests once in power ........ bored witless we are with the whole thing..... and at some stage over the next two years a reckoning must come, and those that have so opposed the true interests of the people and their children must be brought to account and the negative effects of their insanity be ceased, their systems of abuse dismantled, to be countered with life affirming, people centered power and decision making. it's happening in South America, it can happen here!

So, let it be known, far and wide, to all those that have committed crimes as part of that opposition, we the people will find you are accountable after all.

Bring on the stocks I say, store up the rotten vegetables. The peasants will prevail, the simple folk, of which I am but one, are many, and it is upon our backs the empire stands. Shrug off the undignified burden, and walk free. Grow your own. The Empire will fall!

Charidee, guilt and gilts!

I read in the Indy on Sunday, pages 6 and seven this last weekend, that a charity do hosted by the Charity ARK, plates at £10k, plus a Charity Auction, which was hosted by Arpad "Arki!" Bussun (who runs a few City Academies in London in his spare time) raised £10 million more than expected (last year they got £25 Million, this year they were expecting £15 Million)....

Arkis comment was that "we are the keepers of the worlds wealth, it's our responsibility to come together and give to our common humanity!" Indeed!

"Keepers of the worlds wealth" says it all. The Indy warbled about how "Arki" was currently dating (fucking) Umma Thurman and had been dating (fucking) Elle McPherson, and that he counted Maddona and Jemima Khan amongst his friends! Wow! How cool! So glad I know that! - the fawning, supplicant Indy writers name is Jeremy Taylor.

We were also informed that Tony "Bomb Iraq" Blair was the geust after dinner speaker. Apparantly the notoriousy religious war criminal made a 'joke' saying that he was "clearly not the only person to have become richer in the past year" - which, given that he now works part-time for JP Morgan who are as we speak setting up the Iraqi Central Bank, and are thus directly responsible for the privatisation of much of Iraqs resource base, is grossly inconsiderate, not to mention disgustingly smug.

Busson also said, warming to his subject that "I am thrilled by the overwhelming generosity of our geusts, particularly given the more difficult financial and economic environment. These donations will transform the lives of tens of thousands of children in India, South Africa, eastern Europe and the UK."

What a twat! What difficulties do people of his ilk experience in comparison to those at the receiving end of the Friedmanian Free Trade Ideology?

Fact - the policies which made him and his buddies so rich are the same policies that impoverished millions of people world wide, and have led to far too many needless painful deaths. Of mostly children. Hows that for transformation!

Fact - those donations are Tax write offs! So tis the taxpayer who pays in the end.

Convince me that these kinds of people are really serious about helping those they have impoverished, bombed and starved. Please......

Or face the truth - Our Leaders, Commercial, Political and Religious and their acolytes are fundamentally serial greed whores, who will do anything for money or power and use the press and charity to make themselves look good. They believe that their great wealth and protected private lands will insulate them from whatever befalls the rest of us, and they are laughing at us.... not because it's funny, but because they have so many people fooled.

In which case, it's up to us to make the changes, from the local to the national.

Excuse my anger (or not) - it's more outrage than envious resentment.

My irish auntie once dated Jack Lynch (Irish Premier before Charlie "cute hoor" Haughey) and from the way she behaved I learned the following - that there are some born to power who are innately superior to everyone else ............. and that I was not one of them! Though my brother was (he isn't, he's a family guy and wise to all of this!) in her eyes suitable dynastic material. So I do know what I am talking about here, from personal experience.

Simon Howell was also in attendance. Britian's got talent, indeed!
